Round 8 – Beaconhills

Sunday, 12th April, 2026 @ 8.03 am

Format – 4 ball ambrose   singles

An already depleted field of 12 was destined for a much needed 4-ball team event at Beaconhills. That was until a late night call off from Scott with car trouble threw the boys off kilter to readjust their mindset towards another singles event.

Unfortunately, also thrown into the mix was the shite weather, cold wet and miserable. Only the locals seemed to be content with the surroundings.Roos

Although the course itself was in good nick, it just wasn’t ideal conditions to have to fend for oneself. Quite a low scoring affair, even by our club standards. As the sodden groups trickled in at the end there were a few players with low scores, hoping that some loser had a worse day than them.

That proved to be the case as the last group had poor Clayton lodge a sad 16 points for the day.ClaytonHowever, one man who did manage to play a steady hand was Billy A., who without being outstanding threw in a solid 32 points to be wearing the Tweed back at headquarters.

BillyThe level of play seemed to also be reflected in the nearest the pins on the day. 5 par 3s up for grabs, 3 holes without a ball on the green and our winner of the day Billy A. landing the other 2 (holes 15 and 21) to pick a couple of prov1s for his trouble.

As each player reflected on where they went wrong, it was Macster who seemed to trump all. Firstly, putting off the green into the lake undoubtedly proved costly. But summed up his golfing prowess when he rued the opportunity to cash in on his flamboyant handicap, when on a par 5 he was full of self-praise as he played his way onto the green with a masterful 5 shots, only for the blade to let him down and finish with a 9 for 1 (understandably gutted).

Handicap adjustments saw Billy A. cut from 13 to 11. Clayton slide from 37 to 38, Stork 11 to 12 and Barra 15 to 16.

Event management was something that helped lift the spirits of the troops, with Taffy dishing up a curry (nae nan bread) and Billy A. following up with home-made brownies and ice cream.
