Round 3: Sunday, 2nd November, 2025
Lang Lang - 8.00 am tee off
Format - 4 ball ambrose
With several players away on holiday or on the injured list a smaller field of 12 took to Lang Lang for the first team event of the season, although due to a late arrival a singles event was hastily being planned but Scott arrived on time to allow the designated format to take place.
With the withdrawal of Winker and Clayton, and inclusions of Stork and John, Team 2 started the day bookies favourite and with a club record low handicap of 7.375 this proved to be the case. In a rare display there was no hassle with drives, or having to take a drive in an unfavourable position as “it would be their best of the day”, if anything the hassle was deciding which good drive to take. Although the team needed to finish under par to have any chance of winning, 3 under was enough to finish up with 59.625. This could have been lower if not for Stork stating the team would finish without a bogie on the 3rd last hole, only to bogie the next.
With Team 2 out in front it was up to Team 1 and 3 to fight it out for NAGA honours, with both teams having to overcome adversity before or during the round. Team 1, captained by Girdy had to move down the order to give Scott time to compose himself, and with Billy Mac coming of the Scottish seniors tour they were up against it. Team 3, captained by Billy A had a disaster during the round, with his much-loved lady driver falling apart and the team struggled to recover. Eyewitness account by Koala stating the shot in question would fall into the combover category if the ground was a bit softer.
Unfortunately for Team 1 the demotion down the order was too much to take and they fell just short carding 71 and finishing with 59.875. Team 3 carded 70 and came in just ahead with 59.75. This may well be the tightest finish in MGC history with only 0.25 separating the teams, showing the handicaps very rarely get it wrong.
