A welcome return to Berwick Montuna for the MGC, with the event shifted to a drier time of the year, it was in fine condition and the tricky layout seemed to be enjoyed by all.
The main organiser and course bookee Hubba, once again chose a fixture date he couldn’t attend. It’s looking like the absentee register is going to play a big part in the naga of the year battle.
A very welcome return to the fold was Clayton since his recent absence. Also filling in for the day, it was nice to have big Kev on board. These two were to have a big bearing in the day’s results.
On the day, the tricky course layout proved a bridge too far for team Joe and his merry men, Tich, Kev and Billy Mac, who only managed to card a 72, nett score of 60.785, even on a ‘pitch and putt’ course as described by Joe.
In the winner’s circle was team Billy Armour with his able teammates of Scott, Ryan and Clayton. With a big enough handicap came home with a 66, nett 54.75.
Nearest the pins went to Koala (4th), Redder (9th), Girdy (13th) and Billy A (18th).
Handicap adjustments were as follows;
Scott 15 to 14, Billy A. 14 to 13, Clayton 37 to 36, Ryan 24 to 23
Joe 13 to 14, Tich 18 to 19, Billy Mac 47 to 48, Kev 11 to 12
As the new handicaps were announced, it was noted that Billy Mac’s handicap was once again on the slide and moving perilously close to the magic 50, resulting in club status being revoked.
It was also noted that the lack of people taking their penance of wearing the unicorn hats following a naga result. It is the responsibility of the person required to wear the hat to seek it out himself on the day.
The club took a few minutes to remember the passing of a past member Garry ‘the skull’ Buick on his 20th anniversary. Koala generously supplying the bevvie for a toast.
The day would finish on a happy note with a few birthday mentions with Girdy, Tommy, Winker and Mitch all celebrating in the month of January. We also had a milestone birthday with baby Koala turning 40.
Event management on the day was held together by Billy Mac and Mitch, with pie and mash followed by birthday cake and ice cream on the menu.
