Brighton was the course of choice to start the season. History shows it’s a high handicapper’s paradise. Unfortunately, our two highest handicappers, Clayton and Macster were out of town for this one, opportunity lost one feels.
With Clayton in Darwin on the Australian Seniors tour and Macster finishing of his European campaign fulfilling sponsors commitments, it left a depleted squad of twelve to start the season. The course was reasonable coming out of the winter season but still threw up its usual challenges.
These challenges came thick and fast for Taffy, turning after nine with a mere 8 points on his card. This was the lowest of the day and at the bottom of the leader board is where he stayed. Although a minor improvement on the back nine of 13, the damage was done and it was never going to be enough to avoid the first NAGA of the season, totaling 21 points.
The battle for the Tweed proved a non-event as Hubba stormed away from the field with considerable ease. Just to emphasise, Redder carded a respectable score of 31 points in second place. Hubba had that covered by hole 13, with 5 holes up his sleeve for some exhibition stuff to bring it home with 38 points.
Nearest the pins went to Billy A. (3rd), Koala (6th), Joe (8th), no takers on 11th, Baby Koala (13th) and Redder (17th).
Secret six went to Hubba with 12 points.
Back at the club the event management team of Joe and Girdy was splintering. As the members were commenting on the delay of the lunch while waiting for Joe, Girdy was quick to distance himself from said team to ensure he was blameless. However, the quality of the meal was quick to quieten the restless troops.
The results meant Hubba was cut from 24 to 22. Taffy eased out from 19 to 20 and Tommy from 28 to 29.
