Rowville Lakes was the venue for the last outing of the calendar year. A few scratching’s had the organisers pulling in the subs, none more than the ever elusive Bob, who graced the lads with a rare and welcome appearance. It didn’t go unnoticed that the course organiser, Hubba had booked the golf on the wrong day and thus couldn’t play himself.
The course was in reasonable condition, with the greens and fairways fairly decent but the same couldn’t be said for the tee boxes. Overall, decent value for the club.
As the lads congregated prior to tee off, Joe was quick to lay some groundwork for an upcoming unsuccessful round of golf, reeling off a number of ailments and injuries.
It was to be quite early on the front nine that it was “head, shoulders, knees and toes” for Joe as a medical emergency was called at the half way point and Joe had to head home to rest up.
It would group two of Billy A., Redder and Girdy leading the way in the scoring stakes, all finishing in the top three, with Girdy prevailing to don the tweed with a score of 36 points.
At the other end, for most of the back nine, group three were caught up in a shootout for the naga. As the full compliment of players returned to the clubhouse, this proved not to be the case as Baby Koala lodged a poor 22 points for his days’ work to take the naga prize home for Christmas.
As a result, handicap adjustments had Girdy cut from 8 to 6, Baby Koala easing out from 21 to 22, Tich 17 to 18 and Ryan 23 to 24.
Nearest the pins went to Girdy (6th), Redder (8th), Billy A. (10th) and John B. (13th).
The secret six was a tie between Redder, Scott and Tich all with 12 points each.
Event management was ably handled by Redder and Barra, dishing up festive sausages and mash with a delectable onion gravy. Followed by birthday cake and ice cream.
The last game of the year would see the lads celebrate Redder’s upcoming 50th birthday. A custom cake, birthday card and a gift donation by the club would put a beaming smile on the big man’s dish.
